Dr. Paul Fedak, M.D., Ph.D.
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Fedak has extensive experience in pre-clinical and all levels of clinical research and has been a consultant to major medical device companies over the last five years. Notably, he has been involved in studies with kryptonite bone cement for sternal closure and HeartNetTM for treatment of congestive heart failure. Dr. Fedak continues working on innovative applications in his own laboratory where he aims to develop novel approaches to treat heart failure, such as stem cell therapy and tissue engineering. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed original manuscripts and 5 book chapters in this field.
Dr. Fedak serves as an Invited Reviewer and/or Editorial Board Member for 12 leading biomedical publications. Dr. Fedak graduated with honours from the University of Toronto medical school and completed further training in cardiac surgery (FRCSC) and biomedical science (PhD) in Toronto. Dr. Fedak is currently an active clinical cardiac surgeon, as well as an independent research investigator at the University of Calgary, and "Clinical Investigator" of the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical research (AHFMR). Dr. Fedak serves as an Invited Reviewer and/or Editorial Board Member for 12 leading biomedical publications, and is a "Distinguished Reviewer" of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is the recipient of numerous international and national research awards.
Dr. Massimo Cimini, Ph.D.
Director of Strategy
Dr. Cimini is a biomedical innovation consultant who has experience in research management at major academic and community hospitals in Ontario with expertise in site-level management and logistics of clinical trials. In addition, Dr. Cimini has consulted and coordinated efforts of manufacturing firms, academic scientists, and start-ups on technology development and pipeline expansion via re-evaluation of technology adaptability. He has published over 15 research publications and book chapters and delivered over 25 invited presentations on cardiovascular disease and cardiac regeneration. Dr. Cimini received an Hons. Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto and Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of Western Ontario. As a National Heart and Stroke Foundation Fellow, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Toronto General Hospital Research Institute in the Departments of Surgery and Experimental Therapeutics.
